Riverside Brookfield Shootout Saturday Standouts

The much anticipated Riverside Brookfield shootout has returned is back in full effect. With many of the top teams in the Chicago area, there was plenty of talent in the gym. Here are some of the players that were able to standout. 

Keon Alexander (2023 Bolingbrook HS): Alexander is a long athletic center. He gets to his spots well fighting every possession for position and is not afraid to create contact. He runs the floor well and is a threat in transition to score. On the glass, he is a solid rebounder using his length and second jump to outrebound other players.

Joe Auer (2023 Loyola HS): The 5'10 guard can pull from anywhere on the floor and set his feet in an instant. Auer can shoot off the catch, off the dribble, and running off screens. On defense, he moves his feet well and is strong for his size. 

Robbie Avila (2022 Oak Forest): Avila proved why he is one of the top forwards in the state. At 6’9” he is skilled and can score at all three levels. He can stretch the floor and hit the three, can facilitate out the mid post area and can score easily with his back to the bucket. Avila's passing ability was on display as well making some hard passes look easy out of the  post area.

Rashawn Bost (2022 Evanston HS): Bost is a quick point guard with an explosive first step. The point guard is very creative around the rim and has a very efficient floater. Bost is a solid passer finding open cutters with solid lay down passes around the rim. Bost can also hit shots from the outside as a spot up guy. 

Stefan Cicic (2024 Notre Dame):  Cicic is a force to be reckoned with in the paint. Offensively, he can score with his back to the rim using his 6'9" frame to carve out space in the paint and finish over defenders. Defensively, he controls the paint using his wingspan to alter/block shots. 

Connor Casper (2022 Loyola HS): Casper is a lengthy wing. He finds holes in the defense and exploits them with cuts creating opportunities for the offense. Casper is a smart driver and has good touch around the rim. He can also step outside and hit shots.

Ronald Chambers (2023 North Lawndale HS): Chambers is a guard with a solid handle who loves to attack downhill. The 6'1 point guard has a great first step and is strong with the ball. He embraces contact drawing fouls and finishes with ease. He is a dangerous transition player as well. On defense, he is strong and can guard multiple positions.

Dalen Davis (2023 Whitney Young HS): Davis is a quick shifty guard that has the ability to beat defenders off the dribble with ease. The 6'0" guard attacks the rim & can knock down shots from the outside. He thrives in transition with elite speed beating defenders.

Dakari Durham (2023 Morton): Durham is a dominant agile forward that plays big on the floor.  He’s able to carve out space in the paint and easily score at the rim. He’s very active defensively contesting shots and racking up blocks. The forward's combination of size and skill make him hard to stop in the half court. 

Markwan Edwards (2022 Bloom Twp.): Edwards is an athletic scoring guard. At 6’0”, with an elite handle, he gets where he wants on the floor easily. Offensively, he can score from all three levels, hit the three, stop on a dime for a mid-range jumper or get all the way to the rim. Defensively, using his quickness he guards ball handlers full court often getting steals leading to easy points.

John Engles (2022 Hinsdale Central): Engles is a 6’4” do it all forward for his team. He’s everywhere on the floor, attacking the rim relentlessly to draw fouls or finish over defenders. The forward has a good motor on both ends, getting offensive rebounds in bunches and hustling for loose balls on the defensive end.

Bret Gomez (2023 De La Salle HS): Gomez is a smooth guard with excellent downhill speed. He can finish at the basket as well as shoot from midrange he has a nice pull up jumper which he can use to keep the defense honest. On defense, he is a gritty defender and pressures the ball causing turnovers.

Eliseo Gonzalez (2022 Morton HS): Gonzalez is a shifty shot creating guard. He’s quick with the ball in his hands and can score off the bounce easily getting all the way to the rim or pulling up for three. He’s a confident shooter and doesn’t need much space to get his shot off hitting multiple threes a game. 

John Paul Hanley (2022 Riverside Brookfield HS): Hanley is a knockdown shooter. The guard is excellent from deep and can drive to the rim. Hanley has a ton of length and uses his long arms and even longer strides to beat defenders and finish at the rim. He is a smart defensive player as well and gets his hands in passing lanes creating opportunities for his team.

Jeremy Harrington (2023 Curie HS): Jeremy Harrington is a 6’5” athletic wing. Harrington uses his size to score inside, overwhelming smaller defenders with his strength plus he excels rebounding on both ends. The wing tracks the ball well off the rim and racks up rebounds, giving his team extra possessions on the offensive end. 

Carlos Harris (2024 Curie HS): Harris is an elusive scoring guard. The guard has an elite handle, using it to get around defenders and in the paint easily finishing at the rim acrobatically. He’s best when getting downhill to score or distribute. 

Ahmad Henderson (2023 Brother Rice HS): Henderson is a shifty guard who can score from anywhere on the floor. He has a great handle and is a creative finisher at the rim. On the perimeter, he can shoot it off of the catch, or dribble and score from the midrange as well as in the paint. He also has a floater he can use to attack and finish over big men. It's easy to see why Henderson has drawn plenty of division 1 interest this spring.

Nick Hesch (2022 York HS): Hesch is a versatile scorer who has multiple tools to break down a defense. The forward has a ton of length and a knockdown jumper He can score out of the post with an array of moves. Hesch is a quick decision maker and facilitates ball movement for his team. On the glass he is an active rebounder getting put backs and cleaning up the boards on defense.

Ethan Ivan (2022 Batavia HS): Ivan is a versatile forward that can do it all on the court. Using his 6’7” height he scores it from at all three levels on the floor. He displayed his ability to score with his back to the bucket, mid post face up shots, and knockdown threes from well beyond the arc. Ivan has become one of the more coveted division two forwards in the 2022 class. 

Malik Jenkins (2022 Hyde Park): Jenkins is a toolsy forward who can do it all he can grab boards, penetrate and attack the rack off the bounce, and knockdown threes. On defense, he moves well and uses his quick feet to switch onto guards. He is also strong enough to guard bigs in the post.

Nick Kinkade (2022 Neuqua Valley HS): Kinkade is a shifty scoring point guard. He facilitates the game well for his team by controlling the tempo and pace of play. The point guard uses shifty moves to get around defenders, get paint touches and find teammates for open shots. His shooting ability was also on display knocking down multiple threes. 

Austin Kulig (2023 Andrew HS): Kulig is a 6’4” athletic wing who impressed with his jumper among other things. He can handle the ball well and moves well without it to find his shot. Using his athleticism, he finishes above the rim easily and often. The wing also displayed his shooting ability knocking down multiple threes.  

Mekhi Lowery (2023 Oswego East HS): Mekhi Lowery is 6’4” uber athletic wing. He runs the floor well in transition finishing above the rim with a vengeance. The wing can also handle and uses his quick first step to get to the rim. He has good body control in the paint, using his length to finish acrobatically and through contact. 

Nick Martinelli (2022 Glenbrook South HS): Standing at 6’7”, Martinelli can do it all on the court. The forward can handle, shoot, pass and has a polished post game. Using his frame, he affects the game in a variety of ways. He can score at the rim with his quick first step using his long wingspan to finish. 

Jaylan McElroy (2024 DePaul Prep): McElroy is a long athletic wing with a big motor. He is lengthy and uses it well to get steals and alter shots. McElroy is an excellent on ball defender who rarely ever gets beat off the dribble. He hustles every play, has good shot blocking instincts and is great at crashing the offensive glass to get put back buckets.

Cooper Noard (2022 Glenbrook South HS): Noard has a sweet shooting stroke and doesn’t need any room to get his shot off. He also plays well with the ball and can create for his teammates. At 6’1”, the guard can also handle the ball and has good body control attacking the basket finishing through contact.

Toby Onyekonwu (2022 Plainfield East HS): Oneyknowu is a lights out shooter who can create for himself and shoot off the catch. His quick release and creative handle are a deadly combination. The 6’2 guard can also penetrate and score at the rim with his quick first step.

Marcus Overstreet (2022 Whitney Young HS): Overstreet is a force to be reckoned with in the paint. His strength and athleticism were put on display as he dominated in the post. He overwhelmed smaller players and got to his spots with ease. On the glass, he had multiple putbacks and was a threat to grab a board every time down the floor.

Jake Quast (2022 Hinsdale Central HS): Quast is a 6’2” sharpshooting wing guard. He is a proficient shooter from both midrange and three. Using his frame, he’s able to get paint touches at will and finish over defenders. The wing also has a huge motor hustling everywhere on the floor for rebounds and loose balls.

Nick Rentas (2022 Maine South HS): Rentas is a 6'4" sharpshooting wing forward. He can knock down deep threes at a high clip and doesn’t need much room to get his shot off. Rentas also showed his slashing abilities making timely cuts to get easy layups in the half court. 

Patrick Robinson (2022 Oswego East HS): Robinson is a strong athletic forward. At 6’4”, he attacks the rim hard finishing through body contact. Robinson displayed his full game initiating offense, knocking down shots from deep, and scoring in the post.

Parker Sulaver (2024 Benet Academy): Sulaver has a high upside and is able to score in a variety of ways. The forward is able to get it done with his back to the basket and has strong footwork in the post. He can knock down mid-range jump shots and attack the rim by facing up. Sulaver has good touch around the hoop making him hard to guard when he is deep in the paint. 

Asa Thomas (2023 Lake Forest): Thomas is a versatile scoring forward. He is a knockdown shooter from deep and can do it off the dribble or catch. At 6'6", he handles the ball like a guard but finishes at the rim like a center. Defensively, he uses his long wingspan to rack up blocks and rebounds offensively and defensively. Following the shootout, Thomas picked up multiple high majors and is one of the top 2023 targets in the state. 

Trent Tousana (2022 Batavia HS): Tousana is a high IQ point guard. He controlled the pace of play for his team. The point guard made sure his team got the best shot down the court every time. He used his handle to probe the lane to score for himself or set up his teammates. His shooting ability was also on display knocking down multiple threes off the dribble.

Julian Triffo (2022 Maine South HS): Triffo is a long athletic wing. With his 6’6” height he affects the game on both ends. Offensively, he uses his frame to attack the rim hard to finish over defenders. Defensively, he moves his feet well and can guard every position on the floor.

Sonny Williams (2023 Notre Dame Prep): Williams is a quick guard who can score from both the perimeter and at the rim. Williams is a wizard with the ball and is a creative passer that can manipulate defenses with his eyes and creates opportunities for himself and his teammates. He is shifty and can change speeds easily which allows him to get to the rim. He can also shoot off the dribble from both behind the arc and from the mid-range.

Damarion Wyatt (2023 North Lawndale HS): Wyatt is a great shot creating guard. The 5'11 point guard has a smooth jump shot and is just as comfortable shooting off the dribble as he is off the catch. Wyatt can break down the defense with his tight handle and can create for himself and others.
