After taking a visit to the Montgomery, Alabama campus just over a week ago, DonYeil Bolton made the decision yesterday to commit to Alabama State University. Bolton is a 6’3” center at Kenwood Academy in Chicago that played with the Chicago Hoops Express program.

At 6’3” Bolton has been a big presence inside this season at Kenwood Academy (IL) to help them be one of the top teams in the state with a 15-4 record. Alabama State had its share of competition to land the talented center. Bolton also held an offer from Chicago State as well offers from NAIA and NJCAA programs in addition to interest from other division one programs.

Bolton elaborated on why she picked Alabama State, “The main things I like about ASU are how they have many things to offer for my major, it’s a good distance location wise and not in a bad area. I like their team and their playing style they work hard have a lot of post involvement and play at a pace that I’m going to be able to adjust to quickly since they play fast like I do now, and the staff and team are really great.”

On her recent visit to Alabama State, Bolton received her scholarship offer. When speaking about the visit the senior stated that she “wasn’t ready to leave so soon.”

Bolton and Kenwood are in action again on Tuesday against Ogden in the CPS Tournament as well to playing in our MHS Invitational this Saturday the 29th versus Stevenson in a matchup of two of the top teams in the state.

Alabama State is a division one program that is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. On the season the Hornets hold a 5-10 record with a 4-2 record in the conference. Last season they had a 16-4 record.
