Ridgewood Shootout Friday Standouts

The much anticipated Ridgewood Shootout has returned and was packed with talent all weekend. Here are some players that were able to standout on day one. 

 

Keon Alexander (2023 Bolingbrook HS): Alexander is a lanky athletic forward. At 6’7, He runs the floor well in transition finishing above the rim at a high rate. With his athleticism he’s always a threat for a putback slam. Defensively, he gets a lot of blocks meeting ball handlers at their apex blocking shots. 

Dylan Arnett (2022 DePaul Prep): Arnett has some length and excels on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he uses his 6’9 frame to get deep post position and score over defenders through contact and showed signs of a mid-range jump shot as well.  Defensively, he’s very active patrolling the paint using his length to alter and block shots.

Cam Christie (2023 Rolling Meadows): Christie had another good showing. Standing at 6’5, he displayed he could handle the ball and shoot it at a high clip. He showed he can hit the three and pull up from mid-range. He has some good body control in the paint using his length to finish over defenders. 

Bobby Durkin (2022 Glenbard West): Durkin is a sharpshooting wing. He has some size at 6’6” and moves well without the ball to pick his spots. Using his frame, he can get all the way to the rim to finish. He’s good at hitting shots off the dribble and spotting up and doesn’t need much room to get his shot off. 

Jalen Griffith (2023 Simeon): Griffith is an elusive scoring guard. He’s best with the ball in his hands getting downhill. He’s very creative in the paint always keeping defenders off balance. His ability to pull up from both three & mid-range make him hard to stop in the half court.

Alex Gutierrez (2022 DePaul Prep): Gutierrez is a 6’2” knockdown shooter. He moves well without the ball using screens well and finds open space within the defense. He can handle enough to pull up from three or stop on a dime and hit a mid-range jumper. Defensively, he plays with a high motor and hustles for loose balls and fights for offensive rebounds. 

Braden Huff (2022 Glenbard West):  Huff showed why he is one of the top players in Illinois. At 6’10” with his level of skill, he’s hard to stop. He is a great facilitator out the post, finding cutters for easy lay ups picking the defense apart. He displayed his ability to stretch the floor and knock down the three at a high rate. The forward's combination of size and skill makes him hard to contain. 

Martez Jackson (2022 Dekalb): Jackson is a shifty scoring point guard. He’s shifty with the ball in his hands and always keeps defenders off balance. He can get to the rim at will and has good body control in the paint to finish through contact. He displayed his shooting ability, hitting deep threes off the dribble and stopping on a dime to hit mid-range jumpers. 

Morez Johnson (2024 St. Rita): Johnson is an agile forward that effects the games on both ends. Offensively, he has a polished post game and scores with his back to the basket easily using his 6’8” frame. Defensively, he uses his long wingspan to contest a lot of shots at the rim getting a lot of deflections and blocks. 

Davius Loury (2023 Kenwood): Davius Loury is a uber athletic wing. At 6’7”, he can shoot the three plus attack the rim with bad intentions. He’s very active on the defensive end using his length to play the passing lanes leading to highlight plays for his team on the other end. 

Anthony McGhee (2022 Notre Dame): McGhee is a knockdown shooting guard with a sweet shooting stroke. He has a quick first step and  attacks closeouts well to create for himself or others. His shooting ability is elite making multiple threes off the catch & dribble. 

Lane McVicar (2022 Dekalb): McVicar is a 6’5” sharpshooting wing. He’s best with the ball in his hands creating his own shot or getting downhill. He can hit the three from deep and pull up from mid-range. He’s crafty with the ball and gets in the paint easily to finish at the rim.

Foster Ogbonna (2023 Rolling Meadows): Ogbonna is a 6’4 strong athletic forward. He uses his size well, overpowering smaller defenders in the paint to finish through contact. He’s best on the defensive end, using his lateral quickness to speed up the opposing ball handlers getting steals leading to fast break opportunities. 

Fernando Perez (2022 Elgin Larkin): Perez is a strong shot creating guard. He has a nice handle and can get where he wants on the floor. He excels getting downhill and using his length to finish over defenders or draw contact to get to the line.

Trey Pettigrew (2022 Kenwood): Pettigrew is a shifty shot creating guard. He has an elite handle and gets to his spot at will. He’s best with the ball in his hands creating for himself or others. His shooting ability was on display hitting multiple threes of the catch & dribble.

Keon Richardson (2022 Tinley Park HS): Richardson is a shot creating high IQ point guard. He controlled the pace of play for his team helping them get the best shot. He’s shifty with the ball in his hands getting downhill to create for himself or others. He’s very methodical in the paint hitting cutters or finding dump off passes for easy lay ups.

JJ Taylor (2023 Kenwood): JJ Taylor showed why he’s one of the best players in his class. He can shoot it from both three and mid-range and attack the basket with a vengeance. He’s a pure highlight reel in transition getting multiple dunks a game. 

Asa Thomas (2023 Lake Forest): Thomas continues to play at a high level. The 6’6” wing guard can handle, is a skilled passer and can hit threes from deep at a high rate. He uses his length to get steals and play above the rim in transition. 

Trent Tousana (2022 Batavia): Tousana had another good weekend leading his team. He is a true PG and controls the pace of play every time down the court making sure they get the best shot. Tousana also shot it well from three hitting multiple off the catch and dribble. 

Julian Triffo (2022 Maine South): Triffo is a 6’6” forward who can score in a variety of ways. He can shoot the three, mid-range and get all the way to the rim. He also plays with a high motor fighting for loose balls and offensive rebounds giving his team extra possessions and easy points.

Donaven Younger (2023 Bolingbrook HS): Younger is a long agile power forward standing at 6’9”. He runs the floor well in transition and is always a threat to score. He’s an aggressive rebounder, rebounding well in his area as well as others. He has a lot of upside.
