The duo of Shamar Avance and DJ Hughes got off strong start and Lawrence North never looked back. The size, defensive pressure, and talent of Lawrence North was just too much in this one. Constant defensive pressure plus dominating the paint allowed Lawrence North to control this one end to end for the 84-49 victory over Tindley and stay undefeated on the year. Here are the standouts from this one.

Shamar Avance (2021 Lawrence North HS): An ultra-quick and athletic senior point. Incredibly difficult to stay in front of with his moves and great acceleration to the basket. Got to the rim whenever he wanted in the half court and transition game. Crafty finisher around the basket who can also finish strong at the rim. Also spotted up and hit a three. Avance led his team with 22 points with limited minutes in the second half plus was a force on the defensive end causing several turnovers. He is one of the top available seniors in the Midwest.

CJ Gunn (2022 Lawrence North HS): While Avance and Hughes led the scoring early on, Gunn took full advantage of his scoring opportunities in the third quarter. He is a smooth scoring 6’5” wing guard who can score the ball well from all three levels whether it be spotting up from three (hit back to back threes), off the dribble in the mid-range, or driving to the basket.

DJ Hughes (2021 Lawrence North HS): Hughes is a dominant force inside at 6’7” with his strong build. He just could not be stopped when he got the ball around the paint. Very agile and showed off good foot work while posting up inside. Can simply finish over or through defenders inside. Was also able to control the glass grabbing all rebounds near him on both ends of the floor. Hughes is committed to Butler.

Aaron Humphrey (2022 Tindley HS) A versatile 6’7” forward who got a lot done on the floor. Scored the ball well in a number of ways including strong in the paint through contact, spotted up for a couple threes, and can put the ball on the floor a bit to get to the basket. A very active forward who gets up for boards. College coaches will want to get familiar with Humphrey.
